the past delivers the gift of the present

…priceless wisdom to see your future

Often we hear of our “present moment” as a gift. Clever words indeed — and perhaps it is true — but really, couldn’t our past be a gift as well?  We have unwrapped it, played with it, broke it, abused it, and replaced situational batteries from time to time (as well as relationships), but THE GIFT lies in the RESULT of each of those events.

GET IN ACTION: Stop and truly assess where you are now from each occurrence: what did you learn? did you learn anything? how will you do things better? what will we NOT repeat again and also how did these things make you feel? Write it ALL, every delicious nugget of wisdom.

Do we really sit and think about these things?  OR, do we move so quickly out of the uncomfortable quiet within, and find a replacement for each situation — a different job or relationship (and not necessarily a better one)? We haven’t taken the time to figure out what took place in the past…our gift.  We have the answers within from both these past experiences, and also what we should be doing going forward. But for most of us that thought process makes us uncomfortable, so we go with movement, replacement, repeating our past — instead of transforming into better, stronger, wiser individuals.

From every experience we (hopefully) learn a lesson and we need to make a point to take the good — the diamonds — and shine them up, and put them in our pocket for when they are needed.  AND the not so good. That’s the lesson. Stop and feel it, don’t turn away.  How could I have handled this differently?   What did I learn?   What will I do differently going forward? And then, “will I?” is the next big question to ask yourself.
